Nanny placement FaQs

What is a nanny placement, and how does it work?

Nounou Nanny takes great effort and pride in sourcing and vetting sitters and nannies for families. We play the role of "matchmaker" in your childcare hiring process, and provide you with the best suited applicants to choose from. Once you have selected and hired a sitter or nanny, our work is complete.

The nannies and sitters you select are not Nounou Nanny employees, they are yours. All payments, agreements, benefits, and taxes are up to your discretion, and should be discussed with your new hire.

Nounou Nanny is however available to be a constant source of support for you and your nanny. We are here to provide tips, advice, and references if needed. Our Family Resources page is a great place to find useful info.

What COVID-19 precautions do you practice ?

We adhere to the CDC guidelines and Virginia State restrictions in place for COVID-19. For Temporary Placements, we ask that all families and nannies who have travelled or have had potential exposure to the virus remain separate for 14 days in order to protect all parties.

Once 14 days has passed, if COVID like symptoms are present, we advise a medical test screening for clearance before returning to work. If you or your childcare provider develop symptoms whilst working together, please email us at tiffany@nounou-nanny.com to discuss next steps.

Check the CDC website for information on vaccination eligibility and locations near you.

What are Nounou Nanny's placement fees ?

We offer flat rate pricing for long and short term, permanent and temporary childcare. For a full breakdown of our services and costs, visit our Agency Fees page.

Nounou Nanny also offers partial payment opportunities for those interested. We can customize a payment schedule for your needs.

Nannies and sitters require different hourly rates based on their responsibilities and the number of children in their care. In the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, the average nanny earns $28-$32/hour.

How does the nanny share program work ?

A nanny share is an arrangement between two (or sometimes more) families who hire a nanny to care for both families' children at the same time. These arrangements have a cost benefit—both families agree to split the cost of childcare, while the nanny still receives a fair hourly rate. Nounou Nanny gladly connects local families, assists with scheduling logistics, and of course sources ideal nannies or sitters for your nanny share.

Can I also speak to the references of childcare providers under consideration?

Yes! As a matter of fact, we encourage you to do so. Although we handle reference checks for each potential nanny or sitter, you are welcome to request contact information for the individuals we have spoken to.

Can you provide male sitters or nannies?

Male sitters and nannies are harder to come by, but we do understand that men possess excellent attributes as childcare providers.

If you are looking for a male nanny or sitter, we can certainty do our best to source a qualified gentleman to care for your family.

How are Nounou nannies and sitters vetted?

Nounou Nanny understands the importance of safety and trustworthiness when it comes to the care of your children. We conduct in-person (or virtual) interviews with each of our candidates, as well as consult with their past professional references. Furthermore, all childcare providers must pass state and local background checks and maintain up to date CPR and First Aid training. Only candidates with at least 3 years of childcare experience are considered, and their personal interests and child-rearing ideologies are assessed as well.

We use Checkr to conduct background checks on potential hires. Report results are available to families upon request.

If I am dissatisfied with my nanny, what should I do?

It is essential for families to feel comfortable and assured with their childcare provider. If for any reason you are dissatisfied with your nanny or sitter, please email us at tiffany@nounou-nanny.com.

Nounou Nanny’s client agreement defines our replacement caregiver process and refund schedule, should the situation occur.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Nounou Nanny accepts all forms of payment for our nanny placement service. Please refer to your client agreement for an in-depth explanation of payment schedules for temporary and permanent placements.

Virtual sessions can be purchased via our website, all major credit cards are accepted.

How long does it take to find a nanny or sitter?

We aim to complete nanny placements within 3 to 6 weeks after the referral fee is obtained. This allows adequate time for families to interview and consider referred candidates.

We have temporary sitters on call, and in most cases, they are available to work with a 24 hours advance notice.
